The history of Pentecostal Church of Jesus Christ

The autobiography of the late Pastor Emeritus Claude Allen, Sr.
The "Faithfulness of God"50 years of Ministry

Pastor Claude Allen, Sr., was born again (baptized in Jesus name and filled with the Holy Ghost) in the year of 1934 at the Greater Bethlehem Temple of Clinton Street.

He was married to Sis. Genora Allen for 62 years; the father of ten (10) children, grandfather of thirty-five (35) and great grandfather of twenty-four (24).

In the year of 1934, shortly after being saved, Pastor Claude Allen, Sr., was led to hold prayer meetings in his home (along with Sis. Fannie Bradford, his sister, and Sister Margaret Farrow and others) when he was "called to the ministry" through a vision.

He was given permission by his pastor, Bishop S. N. Hancock, to take the prayer band out of his home into a mission on Goddard Street; where the saints prayed and fasted for the Lord to send them a Pastor.

Acting as Pastor, though newly saved, Elder Claude Allen, Senior held the saints together until God answered their prayers and sent a Pastor in the person of Elder Benjamin J. Goode from Columbia, Ohio.

The church was named Bethel Church of the Apostolic Faith which is presently located at 3381 Mack Avenue. Pastor Allen graduated from Bethel School of Practical Theology founded by Dr. B. J. Goode in the early fifties. Pastor Claude Allen Senior remained the assistant Pastor of Bethel Church for 22 years of faithful and dedicated service, preaching, baptizing, marrying, counseling, and doing whatever he was called upon to do in the service of the Lord. During this time, he was also employed at Packard Motor Car Company for 19-1/2 years.

Although he labored in the foundry of Packard daily, it did not hinder his faithfulness in serving as Assistant Pastor. He was also in charge of "Monday Night" prayer meetings and was known as a "Praying Man of God".

In later years at Bethel, during the illness of the pastor, he served as Acting Pastor during an extended period of time (approximately 7 years). In the early spring of 1962, God called and sent Elder Claude Allen Sr., a small church in north Detroit, back to where originally started 57 years prior.  He rented a building at 13528 Riopelle from the late Elder Henry Stallings. The church was called the Pentecostal Church of Jesus Christ where God blessed him to pastor 28 years.A great desire was born for a better and larger house of worship for the saints of God.

In 1963, a new location was purchased at 17801 Greeley in the City of Detroit. The new church was dedicated on June 12, 1964 by the honorable Bishop R. P. Paddock. God truly blessed  and many souls were added to the church. Two pastors were branched off from this church in the persons of District Elder Pastor Claude Allen, Jr., Bishop Gilbert L. Allen.Elder Claude Allen, Sr. , affectionately known as Papa Allen, served as Pastor until 1990 when he became unable to serve in that capacity. Papa Allen appointed his son, Elder Claude Allen, Jr., to serve as the new Pastor of PCJC.

Pastor Claude Allen, Sr., was a long standing member of the Northern District council of the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World during the 57 years of his saved life. TO GOD BE THE GLORY!

These brief remarks cannot begin to describe the labor of love demonstrated by the power of the Holy Ghost through this great man of God, along with his devoted and faithful wife, during his 50 years of service in the ministry. "For God is not unrighteous to forget you work and labor of love, which ye have shown toward His name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister." (Heb. 6:10)

The autobiography of Elder Claude Allen, Jr.

Pastor Claude Allen, Jr., the second of nine children, was born on December 11, 1932, to parents, ClaudeSr., Genora Allen.

Educated in the Detroit Public School System, Pastor Allen had always exhibited an astute interest in reading and given to intense study. Even at an early age, it was quite evident that Pastor Allen possessed God given potential that would later be developed for ministerial service.

Early youth was greatly impacted by the Jesus Name and Oneness principles instituted taught, preached and practice by the local Apostolic assembly and its Parent Body Organization.

These principles were further reinforced by Elder Claude Allen, Sr. having been a true example of a minster, father, and family provider, set the tone for a Godly, stable family relationship.

Sensing a strong attraction to the church environment, and in need of a personal experience of salvation, he was baptized at an early age and continued through the complete experience of the water and spirit baptism evidenced by tongues.

Being exposed to the full order of the Apostolic worship system, (i.e. Sunday School, Sunday and weekly worship, Prayer, Bible Class, Revival Services, etc.) practiced at Bethel Church of the Apostolic Faith, Pastor Allen, Jr. received a sound teaching and preaching foundation under the pastorship of the late Elder B. J. Goode. This foundation served as a great advantage in the teaching and preaching ministry that Pastor Allen developed after accepting the call to the ministry in the early "60's".

Prior to accepting the call to the ministry and recognizing the gravity of such a call, Pastor Allen diligently sought God to send him a wife for companionship and assistance in God's service. His prayers were answered in the person of Sis. Ernestine Allen (Abney), gifted in song and full of the spirit. They were united together in holy matrimony on February 13, 1960, by the late elder Clause Allen, Sr..  Elder and Sis. Allen became the parents of five children. Elder Allen, Jr. served as pastor in Chatham, Ontario for  three and a half years and in Urbana, OH for over eight years.

At the time of his appointment as pastor of PCJC, he was serving in the field as an evangelist. He supported PCJC during the latter years of Papa Allen's tenure by teaching bible classes when needed. Upon his father's request, he joyfully accepted the privilege of pastoring the saints of PCJC. The church continued to grow under Elder Claude Allen Jr.'s leadership and soon it became necessary to find  new place of worship. In 1997 the Lord blessed again with a new church located at 16226 E. Nine Mile Road in Eastpointe, MI. The first service was held on Sunday, May 11, 1997.

Again, God added many souls to the church.Pastor Claude Allen Jr. with a fervent love for the word of God and a passion for educating minds with the unadulterated true word of God became known as one of the most knowledgeable theologians in the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World (PAW, Inc.). He was often called upon for teaching bible classes and for special services. He was active in the Northern District Council including having served as District Elder and as an advisor over the Missionary Department. Several new ministries were born out of his leadership.

On April 9, 2010 the Lord called Pastor Claude Allen Jr. home to glory after serving as pastor of Pentecostal Church of Jesus Christ for twenty years.
